Welcome Primary Blogging Community Friends

Parents,
We are participating in a primary blogging community and this week will be the first week our new friends are visiting our classroom blog. We are learning how to make good comments and then in weeks to come students will be reading other students blogs and making comments on them. We have learned that a good comment includes a compliment, a connection, and a question. We start the compliment with their name in a greeting and then end with our name as the closing. We learned to use only first names so we will be safe online. We never give out personal information like addresses and phone numbers, etc. You can see our post below to our new friends.

Mrs. Soltau Heller's Classroom, Mrs. Haney's Class, Mrs. Allsopp's Classroom,
We are so excited about participating in this primary blog project. We have really enjoyed visiting everyone's class blogs and reading and making comments on them.

We want to welcome you to our class blog. This is a class blog that is used in our classroom every year so you can see some older posts. This year starts with this post from August 31st if you want to see what we have been up to so far this year.

We really enjoyed seeing Mrs. Haney's classroom video of the learning taking place in her classroom so we decided to create our own video. We are still learning with our iPads and couldn't find a good way to get the video clips we created off their ipads in time so Mrs. Goodwin created a short video with things the students wanted to showcase from the classroom.

Hope you enjoyed learning a little more about us.  Be sure to visit our school classroom website to see some more things we do in our classroom.

Writing With Caterpillars (Wooly Worms)

One of the students in class brought in 41 wolly worms. They were all dark colored. Will we have a cold winter? How did she find that many? The students were all so excited the morning they arrived. They were all holding them and talking about them. Lots of chatter before morning announcements. We decided to take some time at the end of the day to name one and write about it. As you can see from the photos they enjoyed it tons. I think we might have to work on it again next week. Since it was a 2 day week we couldn't write about them the next day. I had each student take a photo of their wolly worm with their iPad. I see a kidblog post in the near future with these writings!:)

You Read to Me and I'll Read to You

Have you ever read any tales from the book: You Read to me and I'll Read to You Very Short Scary Tales to read together. We had fun this week practicing fluency and phrasing with the short stories in this book.  Mrs. Goodwin took a photo of one of the stories that we wanted to read.
We picked a partner and put the photo into the Educreations app and then we practiced lots of times before we had the final recording on Educreations. If you would like to listen to some of our recordings click below to hear them.

Hope you enjoyed some of our Spooky Tales and didn't get to scared!

Mr. Baer Science Lesson

We went to Mr. Baer's science class at the high school for a butterfly lesson last Friday. My daughter was one of the high school teachers. This was a fun review and we remembered that our butterflies were heading to Mexico. We sent our paper butterflies out last Thursday to Mexico for a symbolic migration. They will return again in the spring and we will get different class butterflies.
