Fifteenth Week of School
This short 3 day week was filled with making pilgrim plantations in a group and recording our Pilgrim puppet shows that were brought to school. They are on our now on our class website. http://www.southadams.k12.in.us/webpages/agoodwin/pilgrim.cfm You can check them out to see what a great job everyone did on their project. We finished up working on the addition with regrouping chapter but will keep reviewing this often so we don't forget how to do it.

Fourteenth Week of School
In reading this week we worked on Cause and Effect. Cause is the reason something happens: Why? Effect what actually happens: What? We also studied action verbs. In Math we have continued to work on double digit math problems with regrouping. We practiced lots and lots on this skill. The important thing to remember is always start on the right of the problem. We also practiced rounding to the closest 10. We learned lots about what it is like to be a pilgrim boy or girl. They had to work very hard from sun up to sun down with little time to play. We will be recording our scripts next week to share on our website.

Thirteenth Week of School
Another busy week of school. In reading we worked on Making Inferences again. We also studied homonyms, words that have the same spelling but different meanings like bank, the edge of a creek and bank, where you put you money. We practice possessive nouns; these could be used with your name like Mrs. Goodwin's or an animal or object like cat's. These possessive nouns show that something belongs to you or the animal. The beginning of the week we did a matter experiment for Science. We mixed a solid and a liquid to make a gas. Later we studied information about wild Turkeys. We got to see some turkey feathers and some turkey feet.

Twelfth Week of School
We had a great Fall party on Monday. Thanks Room Moms! :) Anissa, Molly, Lisa and Valerie you guys did an awesome job! We learned about making inferences in reading which is very similar to drawing conclusions. In math we have started addition with double digits. We will be working on that all throughout this next chapter. We worked some more on finishing our spooky doodle stories we started last week. The students had some great writing ideas. We spent the week learning all about Matter for Science.

Tenth Week of School
This past week we practiced more summarizing skills in reading. In science we learned a little about the bones of our body and bats. In math we have been working on answering questions using different types of graphs. We had a great RAH RAH Fall Festival reading celebration. The kids enjoyed painting pumpkins, hillbilly golf, cornhole, pin the face on a pumpkin, sack races, and bobbing for apples. They learned how to put a photo on their kidblog and then they wrote a little about this celebration. On Friday we had a BMX bike show which encouraged kids to say no to illegal drugs and to walk away from bullies and tell an adult. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you on Monday or Tuesday next week for Parent Teacher conferences.

Ninth Week of School
Wow! This first nine weeks has flown by so quickly. This past week we have been working on summarizing a story by retelling the beginning, middle and end or what happened first, next, then, and last. We have been working on writing about our field trip by retelling in our writing also. We had a great skype call with the class in Pennsylvania. Everyone did a wonderful job answering their story problems. Our new chapter in math is all different types of graphs. We will be doing another project and skype with this class with our graphing. In Social Studies we have been talking about our city, state, country and continent. We learned the seven continents and talked more about maps and directions north, south, east and west. I have so many pictures and projects to add to the website and I am hoping to get some of them on this week. Now that the Cross Country season is coming to a close I will have a little more time on my hands.
